Fireworks, barbecues, parades, and live music….No other holiday spells summer fun quite like the 4th of July. Although, you could just as easily celebrate America’s birthday by watching the festivities on TV or setting out some lawn chairs and a grill in your backyard. Yet, what better way to celebrate it than everyone around the pond competing to catch the biggest fish. Our largest pond….which is the Gulf of Mexico.
The competition is comprised of all of our friends and family from South Padre Island, TX to Key West, FL trying to catch the biggest blue marlin on America’s Birthday.
The “Gulf Cup” is the only Gulf of Mexico wide tournament of its kind. BBQ, Dancing and Blue Marlin Fishing…..No better way or place to celebrate the holiday than the Gulf Coast!
Bragging rights!!! Which state can catch the Biggest Fish? Who has the Best Fisherman? Who can throw the best 4th of July party? Biggest Blue Marlin on the Dock wins it ALL!!!! Winner takes all. There is no second place.
Boats can leave out of any port from the Gulf Coast at any time. Scout around the Gulf and look for the right piece of water or your favorite honey hole. Fishing will be from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm in your time zone on the 4th of July. Once you’ve boated your legal sized blue marlin, it is now your choice which official weigh station to hang your marlin. Do you go back to your home port? Do you go to the closest official weigh station? Do you go to the weigh station that is offering the most extra prizes? The choice and strategies will keep you thinking. One thing is for sure, when you get back to the dock with the winning fish, the celebration going on will be a country wide event. As spectators wait for fireworks, live music and the winning fish to be brought back to the dock, the excitement will build to a climactic point that will peak with the winning fish, but will continue with the celebration all night long!!!!
The competition will be two fold. While the boat with the winning fish takes all the money; the state, the town and the weigh station that weighs the winning fish will take home the prestigious “Gulf Cup” trophy and bragging rights for the year!
